 Stop Animal Cruelty, Please!

                            

We have lived with animals on this planet for centuries but unfortunately, animal cruelty is still a harsh reality. I would start talking about a surprising place where animal cruelty still exists, our pets. Sometimes unknowingly or in our carelessness, we indulge in cruelty towards pets. We delay feeding them at times or don’t answer their calls of pain. The animals in our home are not there just for our pleasure and enjoyment. So, before we decide to keep a pet we must make sure that we are ready to take full responsibility for the said animal.

Moving to the roads, streets and public places like zoos where animals are present around us. We often see little children misbehave with animals. And their parents or adults just ignore. It is necessary that we teach our kids to behave with animals in a just and polite manner. Another example is, we bring sacrificial animals on Eid-ul-Adha every year. This is a great opportunity to teach kids about animal cruelty and how to behave with animals. But sadly, this opportunity is not taken by many.

Adults are also involved in animal cruelty. All of us have seen videos and posts on social media about incidents of animal cruelty recently. Firing a gun on a dog to test it’s range, mercilessly beating donkeys to death, killing a crow and others incidents. It just breaks my heart see the growing number of animal cruelty incidents. Not sure if I am right but people who kidnap or steal pets are also being very cruel to the animal. Pets share a bond with their owners and feel emotional pain when separated for long periods of time.

Up until now the Animal Cruelty Laws implemented were the ones made in the year 1890 by the British government. The fines range from Rs. 50 to 500 which are very low and put a question mark on the usefulness of such laws. The imprisonment punishment situation is little better or ok. So it might need to increase. Fortunately, in Feb 2018 Senator Karim Ahmed Khawaja proposed the bill which is passed to implement significantly higher fines. 

                    

All living things have a right to live on this Earth but, we, very often become, totally, insensitive to their pain, only because animals can’t speak the language of humans, they don’t have a voice

When God created this planet he had a specific purpose for all living things and He did so to strike a balance in his creation. He wanted a world where harmony and peace prevailed and so He made the ‘Food Chain’ why maintains the ecological balance in Nature but Man in his greed ha recklessly been plundering the natural abode of animals, killing the! Indiscriminately for pleasure, for food, for their skin and other parts of the body, and training some to serve his needs.

Slowly and gradually, with the passage of time, he became so arrival and selfish that he started believing that the planet was made only fool him. He also started using animals for scientific research in the field J medicine, cosmetic industry etc. In his bid to know more and more, 111 carried out experiments on them, treated them as scientific tools and! Stopped feeling their pain.

Animal abuse is a matter that I feel always gets pushed aside. Animal abuse happens more frequently than most people know. Animal abuse can be deliberate or by just simply neglecting to take care of an animal. There are several types of animal cruelties that have been going on recently. There is the spearing of dolphins in Japan. The dolphins are herded into the shore and then slaughtered. They are usually speared and left to bleed out on the shores. The process is slow and agonizing. There is also the poaching of wild animals in different parts of the world. The one you most hear about is the slaughtering of elephants and rhino’s for their horns. They hunt the animals down just to get their tusks/ horns to sell in markets. They don’t hunt the animals for food, clothes, and other necessities that most laws let people hunt for. These people like the hunt and the money that ivory brings them. There has also been huge controversy of people posting pictures of themselves with animals that they have just slaughtered. They slaughter tigers, lions, and cheetah’s People usually slaughter these animals for their fur. Most of these animals’ numbers are dwindling. Some like the tiger are going extinct.

I would like to end this blog with the message next time you think about mistreating an animal, remember animals can’t even communicate with us to complain. Don’t keep the animals forcefully captive. Love them and they will love us back.
